WELCOME
The Redondo Beach Unified School District (RBUSD) provides a continuum of supports to students with disabilities who reside within the boundaries of Redondo Beach. The vision of the special education department is to cultivate a collaborative community that maximizes the potential of all learners through a collective commitment to ensuring every student succeeds.

The Redondo Beach USD is proud to offer a high-quality, co-taught preschool class options at Alta Vista Elementary School. Our preschool is program is called LIFT which stands for "Learning is Fun Together."
The Redondo Beach USD is also proud to offer comprehensive programming at the elementary school, middle school, high school, and transition levels with an emphasis on inclusive practices.
All elementary school sites operate in a learning center model wherein all students with IEPs participate in general education classes, and academic support is provided both in the general education environment and in the learning center depending on the students’ unique needs. Our special education staff uses a variety of research-based interventions and curriculums to support our students. Alta Vista Elementary School houses the district co-taught kindergarten classroom, and our elementary special day classes are located at Lincoln Elementary School.
Middle school programming includes a combination of co-teaching classrooms and collaborative classes with support from special education staff primarily provided in the general education environment. In addition, both middle schools offer focused intervention classes in reading and study skills. Our middle school special day classes are located at Adams Middle School.
Redondo Union High School offers a broad continuum of options for special education students including core replacement classes called Principles or Foundations classes, collaboration classes for certain subjects with push-in support from special education staff, as well as co-taught classes in core content areas. RUHS also provides focused intervention courses and study skills courses. There are two special day classes at RUHS. Students attending Patricia Dreizler Continuation High School or Redondo Beach Learning Academy are supported by special education staff per their individual needs and receive services within those programs.
Students 18-22 eligible to attend the Transition Program participate in a wide variety of activities that incorporate functional academics, daily living skills, vocational skills, recreation and leisure, and mobility training, among others. The Transition Program is located at South Bay Adult School.
All school districts and county school offices are required to form geographical regions of sufficient size and scope to provide for all special education service needs of children residing within the region boundaries. Each region (Special Education Local Plan Area, or SELPA) develops a local plan describing how it will provide special education services. SELPAs also support Community Advisory Committees (CAC). CAC is made up of school administrators, staff members, SELPA parents and members of the community. RBUSD is part of the Southwest SELPA.
